STS serves the photonics industry, primarily within the field of planar optical waveguides, where we offer plasma enhanced CVD for core and clad deposition, and the AOE^TM process for core definition.

Optoelectronics also encompasses some compound semiconductor devices, such as LASERs, LEDs and VCSELs, and within this area STS offers ICP etch processes for manufacturing such components.

By removing the requirement for optical to electrical conversion for signal processing, the latest generation of optical devices are set to revolutionize the fiber optic based technologies currently used for high transmission speed networks. Silicon based MEMS optical switches and attenuators are another application of STS' ASE Process within the optoelectonics market
